FANS ENCOURAGED NOT TO DELAY AS TICKETS TO THE GLASGOW UCI TRACK CYCLING WORLD CUP GO ON SALE ON JULY 19TH
British Cycling, in partnership with UK Sport, EventScotland and Glasgow Life, today announced that tickets for November’s UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow will go on general sale tomorrow (19 July) at 2pm.
Great Britain Cycling Team’s Callum Skinner, who is set to make his first Olympic appearance this August, said of the event: “Glasgow is my home and there’s no feeling like racing in the velodrome. Sir Chris Hoy inspired me take up track cycling, so it’s a very special place for me. The Track World Cup will be something you don’t want to miss, I can see it being another sell-out.”
It’s the first time cycling and sport fans alike will have the opportunity to see Great Britain’s heroes return to international competition on home soil since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and defend their world cup series title. Tickets for the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow sold out for all major sessions within an hour of going on sale so fans looking to attend in November are encouraged to book their tickets early to avoid disappointment.
The opening round of the 2016/17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Series will take place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 November at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome at the £113 million Emirates Arena.
British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, Jonny Clay, said: “It’s the third time that Glasgow will host world-class international racing and we’re expecting another spectacle.
“The Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the Glasgow round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup two years ago showed us just how incredible the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is for cycling, so we’re looking forward to November.”
The event schedule is packed with racing from day one, with 14 gold medals being awarded over six sessions of racing. Highlights include:
- Friday: Four golds to be decided, including the men’s team pursuit, one of the highlights of any world cup
- Saturday: The prize fighters of the men’s keirin clash, plus the women’s Madison, which will be making its debut at the event.
- Sunday: Six golds are up for grabs, including the spectacular men’s and women’s team sprints. The women’s omnium, the event made famous by Laura Trott, will also be decided and the men’s Madison will round off an amazing three days of racing
Tickets for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow are available for every session of the event for general purchase through Ticketmaster from 2pm on Tuesday 19 July.
The UCI Track Cycling World Cup forms part of UK Sport’s Major Events programme that will invest over £50million of National Lottery funding to bring over 100 of the world’s most prestigious sporting events to the UK, including 50 World and European Championships.
The UCI Track Cycling World Cup will once again receive coverage on the BBC with details of broadcast to be confirmed closer to the event.
